Parents separated after a child was born, and the mother moved with the child to live with her parents. There was entrenched conflict between the father and maternal family (intractable conflict). The mother then contracted cancer and died when the child was aged 2 years. The father applied for the child to live with him and to spend some time with the maternal grandparents. When the child was aged 6 years the maternal grandparents applied for an access plan to increase their access time. The court recognised that the maternal grandparents had a meaningful relationship with their granddaughter and increased their access time.
