Kreuzer & Kreuzer 2013 FMCAfam 223

Parents of twins aged two years separated and the mother lived with her own parents and the children lived with the father.  The mother had been detained to a psychiatric hospital following the end of a previous relationship, with symptoms of paranoia and delusions.  The mother was diagnosed with schizophrenia and took medication for a limited period.  The father reported that the mother had mood swings with outbursts of anger.

The mother alleged that the father and his family had been controlling towards her and had required her to change her religion from Buddhism to Christianity, and to change her name.  The mother acknowledged tensions with her in-laws.

The judge ordered that the children live with the father and spend time with the mother, with shared parental responsibility.  The judge ordered that the mother continue to consult her psychiatrist on a monthly basis (therapy for parent) with the father authorised to receive reports from the psychiatrist.
